Members - This invitation from Rich Hamilton:
My son Richard is a film student at Drexel and
is doing the documentary on Chief. He is interested in anyone at Crescent
who might have some memories of Chief that they might want to share
on the movie.
Later, the documentary can be converted into
a file that we can put on the Crescent website if everyone is interested
- it will be a nice tribute to Chief.
If you are willing, let me know when you might
be around the boathouse this week or next weekend. Richard can drop
by and record a 15 minute interview about any stories you might have
about Chief for his documentary.
Please arrive at least ½ hour before you are scheduled to launch
Please wear Crescent shirt/hats…

Note: Commodore of the Schuylkill Navy, Clete Graham,
has been a member of Crescent Boat Club for almost 25 years. All
of us on the Schuylkill River appreciate the tremendous efforts
he has made for us, and for the whole city of Phildadelphia over
all the years that he has served the rowing community as vice-commodore
and commodore. Nonetheless, as his friends we are allowed to poke
a little fun.... he got that real big medal for putting up with
us!.

at the meeting. Parents of rowers are welcome to attend.
Update
on Coach Javier Murillo - Javier has been approved for a
special visa by US Citizen and Immigration Agency, and also by the
US State Department, but there is more red-tape with the Passport
Control office. Tom Doyle, our lawyer Al Caprara, and Javier are all
working on the issue, and we still have high hopes that Javier will
be admitted to US to coach for us this summer. Ray D'Amico has accepted
our request to coach and run the summer programs. When/if/and as soon
as Javier gets here, Ray will integrate him into the coaching staff.
April
25 - The club is now accepting applications
for our summer Racing Program and Novice Program.
Ray D'Amico will again head up the novice division, and Javier Murillo
will coach the racers. Spaces in each division will be limited, so
encourage any prospects to get their application submitted early.
April
14, 2008 - Club officers met at boathouse today.
Officers elected to serve for 2008 - Bill Shea, Pres; Joe Ferry, VP;
Ray D'Amico Treasurer; Keith Pellicone, Sec'y; Maryellen Smith, Schuylkill
Navy Delegate; Dave Ragan Captain; Jack Lees and Tom Bryan, Lts. ;
Javier Murillo, Head Coach.
NOTE:
There will be a meeting of all members of the club on the first
Friday evening of each month. Meetings will begin at 7:30.
Meeting of Officers will be held after Club meetings. Make time for
yourself to come after work, get in a row. We'll order a pizza and
have the club meeting - its important that we get everyone together
to plan, make decisions, take assignments. Next meeting will be May
2, 2008. Following meeting will be June 6 - first Friday night of
each month.
Crescent
has Sunny Rodriguez cleaning the Boathouse each Wednesday.
She has had a great impact on the quality of life in our lockerrooms.
Having this service isn't an excuse to get sloppy. Keep the house
in good order.
DUES
- $450 a year. Due now. A notice will be sent out via email
next week to remind you to pay dues. Don't wait for it. Send your
dues in as soon as possible. Make check out to Crescent Boat Club,
and send check to Joe Ferry at #5 Kelly Drive, Phiila 19130, or to
his house at 441 Hawarden Road, Springfield, PA 19064.
DUES
- we will hold dues for Summer Competitive and Novice Camp members
to $525. Members should get the word out to any young persons
that wants to be part of the best summer program on the River.
Tom
Bryan has reviewed all our boats and has estimated that it
will cost us between $10k and 15k to put all our equipment into perfect
condition. Much of the work that needs to be done is fiberglass repair
of small nicks and dings that happened when getting boats off racks.
Try to be more careful, these kinds of harm are easy to avoid - practice
good boat handling technique, and help one another when moving the
boats into and out of water.
At meeting
the officers reaffirmed the benefit to full members
in good standing to use the social rooms of the boathouse, free of
charge, for family parties and functions. Contact Joe Ferry if you'd
like to make reservation. Check the online calendar to be sure that
your date doesn't conflict with any existing rentals.
April
5, 2008 - Crescent Boat Club has just gotten word from the United
States Immigration Office - the USCIS has granted Javier Murillo a
special working visa to come to the United States and contribute his
"unique' talents to coaching for Crescent Boat Club.
With
this visa Javier will be able to work here in the states for the next
three years, continuing to build the competitive racing program at
Crescent, and to teach and train new rowers.
