Stop your
stroke after the finish and after you've pushed the handle away fro
m your body, but before your back begins to rotate out of the layback
position.
Work
to achieve a clean finish and exit from the water. Get your hands away
from your body smartly. In a regular stroke by getting your hands out,
arms straightened, and shoulders out of the bow QUICKLY, little of the
velocity that you've just given to the boat during the power phase of
the stroke, will be lost.
As
you do this exercise, take note of the run of the boat. As it begins
to decelerate, gently restart your recovery - pivoting lower back, and
then pulling your feet slowing toward your butt as you move into position
for the next catch, giving up as little of the boat's momentum as possible.
