Crescent Boat Club is a Philadelphia rowing club at #5 Boathouse Row, 5 Kelly Drive, Philadelphia, PA 19130. Founded in 1867 and a member of the Schuylkill Navy of Philadelphia, we run learn-to-row, novice sculling, and junior racing programs on the Schuylkill River. Safety, Weather, and Schuylkill River Conditions

Check conditions before every session. The Schuylkill above the Fairmount Dam is flat water, but it floods fast after rain, runs cold well into spring, and carries commercial, recreational, and racing traffic in the same channel.

The Rowing Clubs of Boathouse Row

Fifteen boathouses stand along Kelly Drive, most of them member clubs of the Schuylkill Navy. Contact each club directly about membership, programs, and racing. Numbers 3 and 8 adjoin their neighbors at 2 and 7 rather than housing separate clubs. Schuylkill Navy of Philadelphia – Founded 1858; the governing body of Boathouse Row and the oldest amateur athletic governing body in the United States.
Philadelphia City Rowing – #1 Boathouse Row, at Lloyd Hall. A free program for city public school students.
Fairmount Rowing Association – #2 Boathouse Row. Founded 1877.
Pennsylvania Barge Club – #4 Boathouse Row. Founded 1861, and our neighbor under the same original roofline.
Pennsylvania Center for Adapted Sports – #4 Boathouse Row. Adaptive rowing and inclusive sport programs on the Schuylkill.
Crescent Boat Club – #5 Boathouse Row, 5 Kelly Drive. Founded 1867; boathouse completed 1868, enlarged 1871 to a design by member Davis Supplee, and revised in 1891 by Charles Balderston.
Bachelors Barge Club – #6 Boathouse Row. Founded 1853, the oldest continuously operating rowing club in the country.
University Barge Club – #7 Boathouse Row. Founded 1851; organizer of the Head of the Schuylkill Regatta.
Malta Boat Club – #9 Boathouse Row. Founded 1860; start line of the Thanksgiving Turkey Trot since 1899.
Vesper Boat Club – #10 Boathouse Row. Founded 1865 as the Washington Barge Club.
College Boat Club – #11 Boathouse Row. The Burk-Bergman Boathouse, owned by the University of Pennsylvania; the only all-collegiate house on the Row.
Penn AC Rowing Association – #12 Boathouse Row. Founded 1871 as the West Philadelphia Boat Club; a long-standing pipeline to the US national team.
Undine Barge Club – #13 Boathouse Row. Founded 1856; its 1883 boathouse was designed by Frank Furness.
Philadelphia Girls’ Rowing Club – #14 Boathouse Row. The oldest women’s rowing club in existence, in the oldest building on the Row.
The Sedgeley Club – 15 Kelly Drive. A women’s social club built in 1902 around the Turtle Rock Lighthouse.

BLJ Community Rowing – 2200 Kelly Drive. A “boathouse without walls” just above the Row, and the only Black-owned and operated rowing club in the country.

Learn to Row in Philadelphia

Rowing is one of the few sports most people start as adults or teenagers with no background in it at all. On the Schuylkill you can go from never having held an oar to racing in a season.
