Crescent Boat Club coaches four summer sculling programs from #5 Boathouse Row, from athletes who have never touched an oar through crews racing at the Royal Canadian Henley. All programs row on the Schuylkill River from our own boathouse.

Summer Rowing Programs

Novice Program

For young men and women who have never rowed. Participants learn the fundamentals of sculling: handling boats, rowing as a crew, and safely taking a single onto the river. It is strong preparation for anyone hoping to row in high school, and for sweep rowers who want to learn to scull. The program also accepts adults looking for coached instruction.

Sessions typically run 8:00 to 11:00 a.m., Monday through Thursday. The program includes the opportunity to race in the Philadelphia Youth Regatta.

Sculling Development Program

For high school students who want to improve their technique. Rowers are beyond the novice level but do not yet have the experience for the top racing crews. The program is built for advanced novices, and also welcomes rowers who want to hold their conditioning and sharpen their sculling before returning to their own school programs.

The program follows the same six-day-a-week schedule as the junior programs, except that it ends the week before the Canadian Henley. Rowers race in the Independence Day Regatta and the Philadelphia Youth Regatta.

Junior Racing

Athletes train and race in two sculling divisions: Junior A, under 19 years of age, and Junior B, under 17. Junior U19 practices are generally in the afternoon. Junior U17 practices are generally late afternoon and Saturdays.

U23 High Performance

Open to all athletes, running from 1 June to 15 August. Practices are Monday through Saturday, 6:30 to 8:30 a.m., with additional afternoon sessions.
